Nautical watch specialist Spinnaker has released the limited edition Help for Heroes Spence Automatic.
A collaboration between parent Dartmouth Brands and service personnel charity Help for Heroes, this custom variation of its venerable Spence diving watch follows the release of the Flyboy Engineer Automatic Help for Heroes Limited Edition and the Hawker Hurricane Help For Heroes Limited Edition by stablemate AVI-8
Dartmouth has pledged to donate a minimum of £25,000 from the series to the armed services charity. The Spinnaker Spence Automatic is limited to just 300 pieces available.

It’s a classic looker, powered by a customised Japanese-made Seiko NH35 automatic movement, visible through the exhibition caseback. We really appreciate the substantial stainless steel case, which has a diameter of 41mm and a thickness of 14.5mm. The watch is mid-sized (lug to lug it’s 47mm), and fits comfortably on the wrist.
The dark blue dial has designed for optimum legibility, with stylised luminous indexes and hands. These are clear and easy to read. A quick glance tells you everything you need to know. The lume is best described as functional, but it’s not outstandingly bright. The crown is chunky, but pretty easy to adjust.
At first glance, we found the red rotating bezel a tad gaudy, but it’s in keeping with the Help for Heroes colour scheme. It also looks cool with a blazer or leather jacket, casually drawing attention to itself. The bezel action is satisfyingly clicky.
Each of these limited editions comes in its own numbered gift box, decorated in livery which echoes the 3 branches of the military. This three colour motif is echoed on the stitching on the 22mm blue waterproof leather strap, and the keepers, which are light blue and red.
Stylish, practical and most importantly fun to wear, this limited edition Spence is both a robust dive watch – as you’d expect of Spinnaker, it’s water resistant to 200m – and a great everyday companion.
