Asi mismo no es posible integrar un holograma HRI transparente cubriendo y protegiendo la totalidad de la superficie de un documento integralmente de policarbonato porque representa una barrera en la termolaminación de sus capas y se deslamina muy fácilmente. Se utilizan por tanto hologramas transparentes muy restringidos en forma zonal de reducido tamaño que son más un testimonio que una protección ya que a través de dicho holograma HRI se realiza el grabado con rayo láser de la imagen facial y por tanto permite la manipulación fraudulenta posterior del documento mediante retoque con rayo láser para cambiar los rasgos de la imagen original grabada con rayo láser por otra identidad. Por otro lado, hasta ahora los laminados holográficos HRI presentan deficiencias estructurales que hacen que la capa del soporte (carrier) de poliéster se deslamine y separe por la acción prolongada del agua (a las 24 horas se produce la deslaminación o separación) lo cual es un inconveniente grave para documentos de identidad de alta seguridad. Asi mismo, el laminado holográfico HRI termolaminado en un documento o tarjeta de identidad, se deslamina y separa sin daño aparente alguno con la acción de 'disolventes y reactivos químicos tan comunes como la acetona, amoniaco hidrocarburos etc, lo cual representa un grave inconveniente para la seguridad del documento de identidad ya que dicho laminado holográfico HRI puede por tanto ser reutilizado fraudulentamente en otro documento reproducido del original con imagen facial sustituida por otra identidad. Es necesario añadir que también los laminados holográficos metalizados opacos adolecen igualmente aunque en menor medida de los inconvenientes de deslaminación mencionados.
