[0028] 以下、実施例について詳細に説明するが本発明はこれに限定されるものではない 。以下の実施例で使用した高分子フィルムはポリピロールフィルムであり、このフィル ムはピロール 2.01gおよびテトラエチルアンモ-ゥムテトラフルォロホウ酸 5.43gを、 1% の純水を含む炭酸プロピレンに溶力して 500mlの溶液とし、正極に白金板 (長さ 100m m、幅 50mm、厚さ 0.18mm)、負極にアルミ板(長さ 300mm、幅 100mm、厚さ 0.05mm)を 用いた電解重合セルに上記溶液を入れ、ポテンシヨスタツト(HA-301,北斗電工)から 一定電流 11mA (電流密度 0.125mA/cm2)を 12時間印加し、電解重合により製作した 。電界重合温度は 20°Cであった。得られたポリピロールフィルムを白金電極上から はがし、炭酸プロピレン中で約 5分間洗浄した後、真空乾燥し作製したものである。 実施例 1
[0029] 図 1は、上述した方法で作製したポリピロールフィルムを、長さ 36mm、幅 3mm、厚さ 2 0 μ mに切り出し、 1枚のポリピロールフィルムをジクザグ形状に折り曲げて作製したバ ネ形状ァクチユエータに 2Vの直流電圧を印加したときの変形の様子を示したもので ある。
[0030] 本実施例はポリピロールフィルムを 12回折り曲げてジグザグ形状としたものであるが 、この両端に直径 25 mの銅線を銀ペーストで固定し、ポテンシヨスタツト(HA-301, 北斗電工)力も 2Vの直流電圧を印加し、そのときの伸縮の様子をビデオカメラ (DCR- PC300K,ソニー)で撮影した。
[0031] 2V印加により 38mAの電流が流れ、ジグザグ形状のパネ形状ァクチユエ一タは縦方 向に約 22%伸長した。このとき、空気中において、電圧印加前の屈曲部分の角度は 19〜31° (平均 25.1° )であるのに対し、 2V印加することにより 25〜35° (平均 31.1° )に増大し、屈曲部分の角度が電圧印加により約 24%増大することがわ力つた。また 、電圧を切ることでポリピロールフィルムはほぼ元の形状に回復した。
[0032] 電圧印加によりポリピロールフィルムは水分子を脱着しながら収縮し、収縮率は 1〜
2%程度であった。このパネ形状ァクチユエータの変形率 (22%)は、従来技術の 10 倍以上に相当するものである。これは、(1)従来ポリピロールフィルムの伸縮を測定し ていたのに対し、本発明におけるこの実施例では、ポリピロールフィルムの屈曲に伴 うパネ形状ァクチユエータの変位を測定して 、ること、(2)ポリピロールフィルムを紙バ ネ状に繰り返し折り曲げることで屈曲部分を含むユニットが直列に結合した配置となり 、電圧印カロしたときの角度変化に伴う微小な変形を一次元的に集積し、結果として一 方向への大きな伸長を可能にしたためと考えられる。
[0033] (比較例)
上述したジグザグ形状のポリピロールフィルムの比較として、長さ 100mm、幅 50mm、 厚さ 50 mのチタン板を、 50〜60° の角度になるように 3mm間隔に折り曲げ、これを 電極に用いて同様の条件下で電解重合を行った。得られたポリピロールフィルムを 洗浄、乾燥後、幅 3mmに切り出すことで、図 2に示すような最初力 折れ曲がって合 成されたパネ形状ァクチユエータを作製した。両端に直径 25 μ mの銅線を銀ペースト で固定し、ポテンシヨスタツト(HA-301,北斗電工)から 2Vの直流電圧を印加したとき の伸縮の様子をビデオカメラ(DCR-PC300K,ソニー)で撮影した。
[0034] 空気中で 2V印加することにより 19mAの電流が流れた力 ポリピロールフィルムの形 状はほとんど変化しな力つた。このポリピロールフィルムはジグザグ形状に折り曲げら れた電極上で合成されていることから、屈曲部分には弾性変形などの変形や歪、外 部からの応力は与えられていない。このことから、電圧印加によりパネ形状ァクチユエ ータを変形させるためには、ポリピロールフィルムにあら力じめ内部応力(内力)を発 生させることが重要であることがわ力つた。これは上述したとおり、変形量( ε - ε ' )は 内部応力( σ )と弾性率の差分 (Ε'—Ε)の積となるからである。
[0035] 発明者は上述した現象を裏付けるものとして、ポリピロールフィルムに引張り歪をカロ えた状態で電圧を印加することにより収縮応力が変化する現象を見出している。図 3 は、ポリピロールフィルムに種々の歪をカ卩えた状態で電圧を印加することによる収縮 応力の変化(以下、電気収縮応力)を示したものである。長さ 35mm、幅 5mm、厚さ約 3 のポリピロールフィルムを引張試験機(Tensilon II,オリエンテック)のチャックに 固定する。ポリピロールフィルムの両端に銅線を銀ペーストで固定し、ポテンシヨスタ ット(HA-301,北斗電工)を用いて直流電圧を印加したときの収縮応力を求めた。 2V 印加により 6.1MPaの収縮応力を発生する。ポリピロールフィルムを伸長することにより 応力は増大し、電圧印加によりさらに大きな収縮応力を発生する。
[0036] 興味深いことに、ポリピロールフィルムに種々の歪を加えたときの電気収縮応力は、 ポリピロールフィルムを 1%伸長することで 9MPa(1.5倍)に増加する。電流値、赤外放 射温度計 (THI-500S, Tasco)により測定したポリピロールフィルムの表面温度および 、ポリピロールフィルム表面近傍の相対湿度変化 (MC-P,パナメトリタス)はカ卩えた歪 によらず一定であったことから、収縮応力の増加はポリピロールフィルムの弾性率変 化に起因すると考えられる。

[0039] 種々の電圧を印加した場合のポリピロールフィルムの応力歪特性を図 4に示す。無 張力下で電圧印加するとポリピロールフィルムは収縮し、収縮率は印加電圧とともに 大きくなる。次にポリピロールフィルムを徐々に伸ばしていくと、応力は直線的に増加 する。直線の勾配より算出したポリピロールフィルムの縦弾性率 (ヤング率)は印加電 圧とともに増加し、 2V印加することで約 60%増加した。これは、電気収縮によりポリピ ロールフィルムがより変形しに《なったことを意味する。
[0040] これらの数値を用いて計算した電気収縮応力を図 3中に破線で示す。電圧印加に よりポリピロールフィルムの縦弾性率は増加することから、歪とともに電気収縮応力は 大きくなる。ここで、歪が 1 %以下では実験値と計算値はほぼ一致するが、 1 %以上で 大きくずれてくる。これはポリピロールフィルムの塑性変形が起こったためと考えられ、 実際に 2%伸ばした後に歪を取り去ってもポリピロールフィルムは完全に元の長さに は回復しな力つた。このことから、電気収縮応力の増加はポリピロールフィルムの弾性 変形領域でのみ発現すると考えられる。 [0041] これと同様の機構で、図 1に示したパネ形状ァクチユエータの変形を説明することが 可能である。すなわち、ポリピロールフィルムを折り曲げることで作製したパネ形状ァ クチユエータの屈曲部分には、折り目を形づくる塑性変形と、パネ特性を発現する弾 性変形が存在する。
[0042] 電圧印加により水分子の脱着が起こりポリピロールフィルムが収縮するために弾性 率が増大し、ポリピロールフィルムはより変形しに《なる。そのため、屈曲部分に与え られている弾性変形を減少させる方向(歪みが少なくなる方向)、すなわち、折り曲げ る前の真っ直ぐな形状へ回復する力が作用することで、屈曲部分が開いて角度が大 きくなる。これによりパネ形状ァクチユエータが伸長すると考えられる。
実施例 2
[0043] 図 1に示したパネ形状ァクチユエ一タは横方向の自由度も高ぐ変形途中で横に倒 れてしまうという問題があった。そこで、図 5の様に 2枚のポリピロールフィルム(長さ 36 mm,幅 3mm,厚さ 20 m)を交互に折り曲げることで 2枚パネ形状ァクチユエータ (紙 パネ形状ァクチユエータともいう。)を作製した。
[0044] 図 1と同じサイズのポリピロールフィルム(長さ 36mm,幅 3mm,厚さ 20 μ m)を用いて いるにもかかわらず、図 6に示す 2枚パネ形状ァクチユエ一タの初長(5mm)は図 1の パネ形状ァクチユエータ(9.5mm)の約半分である。これは、 2枚パネ形状ァクチユエ ータでは 2枚のポリピロールフィルムが交互に折り込まれており、パネの自由な伸び が制限されて 、るためである。
[0045] 図 7に示すとおり、 2V印加によりァクチユエータは可逆的に伸長し、伸長率は最大 4 0%に達することが明らかになった。これは、ポリピロールフィルムがよりコンパクトに折 り曲げられることで内部応力(弾性変形の効果)が大きくなつたためと考えられる。電 圧印加によるァクチユエータの伸長は繰り返しにより減少するが、 3回以上でほぼ一 定(25%)になることかわかった。
産業上の利用可能性
[0046] 本発明は、分子の吸脱着と高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形との関係を利用したセ ンサーや高分子フィルム又は繊維の可逆的な変形を利用して水蒸気、ガス、及び液 体についてその流量や方向を制御する人工弁、ケミカルバルブ、スィッチ等の電子 工学素子として応用することができる。
また、直接高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形を利用して仕事をさせるァクチユエータ や人工筋肉材料など幅広く産業状の分野で利用できる。さらに、高分子フィルム又は 繊維を二次元、三次元的に折り曲げた平面又は立体構造を直列および並列に配置 することにより、より大きな変形や応力を取り出すことも可能である。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 外部刺激による分子の吸脱着によって、高分子フィルム又は繊維を変形せしめる 方法において、
内力が生じるように前記高分子フィルム又は繊維を変形させた状態で前記外部刺 激を与え変形せしめることを特徴とする高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形方法。
[2] 外部刺激による分子の吸脱着により、変形状態にある高分子フィルム又は繊維の 弾性係数が変化することを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の高分子フィルム又は繊維の 変形方法。
[3] 前記変形状態が、紙パネ形状、板パネ形状、波形状、及びジクザグ形状からなる群 力 選ばれる少なくとも一種の形状であることを特徴とする請求項 1又は 2に記載の 高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形方法。
[4] 前記外部刺激は電気刺激であることを特徴とする請求項 1から 3の ヽずれかに記載 の高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形方法。
[5] 前記分子は空気中の水分子であることを特徴とする請求項 1から 4のいずれかに記 載の高分子フィルム又は繊維の変形方法。
[6] 外部刺激による分子の吸脱着によって変形する高分子フィルム又は繊維からなる 高分子ァクチユエータであって、該高分子ァクチユエータは、内力が生じるようにカロ ェ形成され、該内力が生じた状態から外部刺激により変形し作動することを特徴とす る高分子ァクチユエータ。
[7] 前記外部刺激による分子の吸脱着により、前記高分子フィルム又は繊維の弾性係 数が変化することを特徴とする請求項 6に記載の高分子ァクチユエータ。
[8] 前記変形状態が、紙パネ形状、板パネ形状、波形状、及びジクザグ形状からなる群 力 選ばれる少なくとも一種の形状である請求項 6又は 7に記載の高分子ァクチユエ ータ。
[9] 前記外部刺激は電気刺激であることを特徴とする請求項 6から 8の ヽずれかに記載 の高分子ァクチユエータ。
