Abstract

An intravenous catheter assembly with flexible extender and protector against needle tip comprising an intravenous catheter (2) together with a flexible extender (7) for infusions, passing over an introducing needle (1), which extender (7) may prevent the undesirable escape of blood or other infusions with a simple strangulation. It is essentially composed of a rigid or semi-flexible concave handle (16) which shelters the needle (1) and the other components, including the flexible extender (7); by using the handle-casing, the catheter packaging is discarded, requiring only a lid (17) which combined with the handle (16), hermetically closes the catheter (2). A protector (19) for the needle tip is also provided for effecting greater safety and hygiene.

Description

Descriptive Report of patent of invention: "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP".
We may characterize the artifact named: "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR
AGAINST NEEDLE TIP" in that it has a small flexible tube for infusions, being possible to prevent the blood escape with a simple strangulation, what is possible with only one of your own hand until an infusion or its lid is connected. Thus, WP can obtain a great ease concerning its attachment to the patient's body and the exemption of blood leakages, surpassing the utility model: "Single Outlet Vascular
Catheterism Device", which leaks due to holes on its latex body (flexible glove curve), as in conventional catheters by several reasons. Further, it shelters on its body a protector against the needle tip, which is taken to the needle end preventing it from its tip after the catheter attachment.
Next are the drawings descriptions and its components:
FIG.1 - Demonstrates the position for the usage of the "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP".
FIG. 2 - Scheme of the catheter post-insertion moment m intravenous via, showing the flexible extender strangulation by a hand. It is also illustrated in the drawing the action of the protector against the needle tip
FIG. 3 - Separation of the catheter from the opening: the protector is connected to the catheter until the safe cord is completely extended, preventing the separation between the protector and the rest of the device, putting it in the functional position
FIG. 4 - Shows the semi-flexible handle in use
FIG. 5 - Shows the instrument in the cylindrical, small and hermetically closed casing, sheltering a needle, the catheter and the flexible extender. Finally, the support chute occupied by the components, completing the components disposition drawing.
FIG. 6 - Shows the device usage position. FIG. 7 - The separated parts of the invention.
FIG. 8 - Shows the device functioning, with the chute involving the needle after the catheter securement.
The Figure components:
(1) - The guide needle has a length which passes through all the flexible extender length and reaches the other end, the catheter tip. Relatively thin needles may have cleft for a better view of the blood flow.
(2) - The intravenous catheter canula.
(3) - The blood via.
(4) - The rigid (or flexible) catheter canula base is connected to the flexible tube for infusions (7), having also an internal funnel and an external cover surrounding it.
(5) - Protuberances in the device concave handle, which is used for the catheter canula opening (4).
(6) - The engagement that provides stability at the moment of puncturing, which must be connected to the device body protuberances (5).
(7) - The flexible tube for infusions is attached to the catheter canula base (4).
(8) - The opening of the flexible tube for infusions, through which the guide needle passes, which will be coupled to the protection claw.
(9) - The needle protection claw is composed of two bent pressure blades, directed against the needle in order to isolate its tip, and of two bent flanges against the wall of the extender opening for infusions (8). When the stopper cord (13) is extended, the protector is separated from the opening of the extender for infusions (8) and it automatically positions itself over the needle tip which is already disconnected from the catheter.
(10) - Rigid (11) or flexible (14) contact area.
(11) - The catheter holder is a concave handle which shelters the needle, the extender and the tip protector by surrounding them, all of them connected in its inner part.
(12) - The needle base inside the catheter holder (11) having a filter in the bottom part.
(13) - It is the stop cord, a fine wire, having a certain strength and length, so as to prevent the protector
(9) from escaping.
(14) - Semi-flexible concave handle which presses the flexible connection (4), providing greater sensitivity and stability when puncturing veins with thin needles.
(15) - Needle cleft for the blood flow verification.
(16) - The cylindrical handle, which shelters the remaining components inside itself.
(17) - The lid hermetically closing the device. (18) - The catheter guide needle base is secured to the bottom.
(19) - The support chute has its lateral rims semi-flexible. It has holes (20) and bores (22) for limiting the chute travel.
(20) - The holes are engaged to the casing protuberances (21).
(21) - Inner protuberances of the handle (casing) (16).
(22) - The support chute bores are intended to engage with the protuberances (21) and to limit its travel in the handle-casing.

Claims

1 - "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP" is characterized by having: a flexible extender for infusions (7) together with the catheter canula base (4); three different types of handle; and a support chute (19) that protects the needle after the puncture.
2 - "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP", according to claim one, is characterized by having a concave handle (1 1 ) which surrounds the flexible extender (7); and fixed protuberances (5) where the engagement with the cavities (6) in the catheter canula base (4) occurs, as shown in figures 1 , 2 and 3.
3 - "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER
WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP", according to claims 1 and 2, is characterized by having a concave semi-flexible handle (14), which shelters a relatively thin needle (having a hole in its medium section), so as to signal when the vein is reached, providing better sensitiveness when installing the catheter (fig. 4).
4 - "INTRAVENOUS CATHETER WITH FLEXIBLE EXTENDER AND PROTECTOR AGAINST NEEDLE TIP", according to claims 1 , 2 and 3, is characterized by having a cylindrical handle (16) that shelters the guide needle (2) in its interior (18) (the needle deviation is shown in figures 5, 6, 7 and 8); and a support chute (19) that deviates so as to protect the needle tip.
