NITED STATES PATENT OF ICE,
JEROME O. WARD, OF HILLSDALE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MUSlC-REPOSITORIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,69] dated J une 13, 1876; application filed March 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be-it known that I, JEROME O. WARD, of Hillsdale, in the county of Hillsdale and State of Michigan, have invented anew and Improved Music-Repository, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section on line 0 c, Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 a vertical longitudinal section on line a w, Fig.1, of my improved music-repository.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improved music stand or repository, in which sheet-music and in usic-books may be conveniently stored away below the piano, and readily be taken out for use.
The invention will first be described in connection .with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim. I
In the drawing, A represents the supporting-posts of my improved music-repository and B the shelves arranged on the same. The posts are placed on casters, and made of such height that the whole device may be readily rolled under the piano and drawn out by the player with great convenience to take out or replace any of the music stored. The
' shelves are made about the size of the common sheet-music, and serve to store the same. The'shelvcs B are openat the front end, and may be closed at the sides and backby hinged leaves 0, which are intended for carrying music-books of all descriptions when thrown down, they being supported by cords D, that run through holes near the corners along the outside of the same. The leaves 0 may be adjusted at any suitable angle by tying a knot into the outer part of the supporting-cord, so that any number of books may be supported thereon. When the leaves are carried up to close the shelvesat the sides, a knot is tied tightly to the leaf to retain it in position. Between the supporting-posts A, at the sides and rear of the shelves, are arranged vertical rods E, that extend from the lower to the up"- per shelves, and prevent the books in the swinging leaves from sliding down and interfering with the music on the shelves. Sheet and book music may be conveniently stored away in this stand, which presents a neat appearance, and is entirely out of the way when pushed under the piano.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, is- 1 The combination of posts A, shelves B, hinged leaves 0, held by cords D, and the vertical rods E, constructed and arranged substantially as andfor the purpose specified.
