Die Einrichtung zum Abpressen weist dabei mindestens ein Pressrollenpaar auf, welches quer verschieblich zur Transportrichtung des Transporttisches ist. Die Achse einer jeweiligen Pressrolle ist quer zur Transportrichtung und damit quer zum letzten Falzbruch ausgerichtet. Durch die erfindungsgemäße Falzmaschine wird in vorteilhafter Weise erreicht, dass eine Falzfolge mit einem Falzbruch oder eine Mehrzahl von Falzbrüchen direkt im Anschluss an das Falzen abgepresst wird. Die gefalzten, bogenförmigen Elemente werden der zweiten Taschenfalzstation somit bereits in abgepresstem Zustand zugeführt, Falzbrüche in der zweiten Taschenfalzstation können mit höherer Genauigkeit durchgeführt werden und Qualitätsminderungen aufgrund von Quetschungen können vermieden werden.
