About the author (1985)

Frances Kroll Ring was born on May 17, 1916, in the Bronx, where she attended Morris High School. She was the personal secretary to F. Scott Fitzgerald for the last 20 months of his life and a longtime source of information for biographers, documentary filmmakers, students and fans. She wrote the memoir: Against the Current: As I Remember F. Scott Fitzgerald, published in 1985. Ring began working for the author in 1939. She is credited with typing drafts of The Last Tycoon and served as a sounding board for Fitzgerald as he was writing the book. She died on June 18, 2015; she was 99 years old.
