Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home from college with a degree, but her mother won't be happy until her daughter has a ring on her finger. And there's no solace for Skeeter, because her beloved maid Constantine, who raised her, has disappeared. Aibileen is a black maid, raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her since the death of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. Aibileen's best friend is Minny, the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody's business, but she can't mind her tongue. Seemingly as different as can be, these women will come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk.
