Kommunikation über Grenzen: Aktuelle Ansätze zur interkulturellen VerständigungCommunication across cultural borders has been the ideological-political program of the Indian state since its foundation ("Unity in Diversity"), but the opening of Indian economy and markets a decade and a half ago has led to a confrontation of Indian society with other societies and cultures never before. The technical achievements of the new media have also made communication considerably easier. As a result, the foreign language departments of the universities in the country have experienced a qualitative shift in their objectives: not only the understanding of printed texts in foreign languages is relevant today, but also increasingly the societies and cultures in which these languages are spoken. Against this background, the German Section of the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Pune, organized an international interdisciplinary conference in Pune (7-9 January 2008), at which various practical and theoretical approaches were presented that illustrate the process and the mechanisms Analyze Intercultural Understanding.
