About the author (2003)

Elizabeth George was born on February 26, 1949, in Warren, Ohio. People are often surprised to learn that this best-selling author of English mysteries is, in fact, an American. George's love of everything British, stemming from a Shakespeare study trip, has greatly influenced her writing. From the age of seven, George desired to write. After attending colleges in California, she taught English at several high schools, and later taught creative writing at a number of colleges. George's first mystery novel, A Great Deliverance, won both the Anthony Award and Agatha Award for best first novel in 1989. In this novel, she introduced a marvelous cast of characters, including Detective Lynley and Sergeant Havers, both from Scotland Yard. George's novels are more violent than many English mysteries, and feature intricate, detailed plots that captivate readers. Each novel provides rich and complex emotional details of the lives of the characters. Other titles in this series include Playing for the Ashes and Deception on His Mind.
