Novelist Anthony Hope-Hawkins was born in London, England on February 9, 1863. After attending Marlborough College and Balliol College, he became a lawyer and wrote short stories. The Prisoner of Zenda, his best-known work, was published in 1894. Due to the book's success, he became a full-time writer. During World War I, he worked for the Ministry of Information to counteract German propaganda. He was knighted for his efforts in 1918. He died of throat cancer in Surrey, England on July 8, 1933. Henry Carl Keifer was a prolific illustrator whose earliest published work appears to have been an adaptation of Thomas Bailey Aldrich's Story of a Bad Boy in 1928 and he illustrated more than sixty different comic series between 1935 and 1955. He was best known for Wambi the Jungle Boy by Fiction House - 1940-1948. He became involved with Classics Illustrated in the early 1940s and his work is both distinctive and stimulating. There are many examples of his work throughout the CI series.
